In my opinion, the future of the Chinese domain names is depend on two points. First is to get support from majority Chinese browser such as 360 Browser, qq browser and etc.. to show the original IDN domain rather than Punycode. This will greatly change the user experience and usability. Second is to get support from majority Chinese search engine such as baidu to take IDN domain as part of their algorithms. But this is highly unlikely because this will affect their business. This is also the reason why many famous Chinese website use numbers as their domain name because it is easier to memories. This can improve their traffic from not fully dependent on search engine. From viewing the auction list, it is easy to found that the management team of .在线 is not really understand the china market. This might be the reason why some of the domains didn’t sold out from the auction. In conclusion, i still think that Chinese domain name have a great potential in the future china market but many changes needed.
