Great video. Quick question. So I’m using an existing post and using URL parameters for each adset but not seeing them under traffic sources as I specified. IG timeline only placement. Do you know why this could be?

Hey i am good with Google ads query string tracking for my pay per call campaigns and i track them via third party tracking tool where i sniff for gclid and upload that to google ads via offline conversion method so it can associate what adset and which specific click got conversion. With facebook i assumed it would be fbclid which is going to be the unique parameter to track and upload that back to facebook, but i just noticed with facebook offline events they don’t have any sort of unique identifier which needs to be uploaded in an offline event they just need timestamp and few customer details, so i am wondering how do they associate which click from which adset or campaign resulted in that offline conversion.

Dynamic URL parameters are still working. Despite Facebook removing any mention of them in the help page

Does anyone else get an error that says "Dynamic parameters aren’t available at this time. Your URL will still work, but parameter values won’t be replaced at ad delivery." when they try to do this? Sorry if he said it in the video and I just missed it being so excited!

    1$ question :
    1) One campaign distributed on Facebook and Instagram
    2) I put the Dynamic source in utm parameter so that utm source= "Site_source_name" so that i see the right source in Google Analytics.
    3) The result is utm_source=fb or utm_source=ig on Google Analytics
    4) How can you force it to be utm_source=facebook or utm_source=instagram ? and not fb and ig?
    5) so that it adds up with your other sources?

Hello Julian, thanks for the video is really helpful. I have a question that maybe you can help me out. I have set up everything as you have for the UTM on the FB Ad manager but when I go to my GA on realtime (just like you do in the video) to make sure everything transfers correctly, my GA only shows Source, Medium, Campaign but no Keyword and when I pull the report some of the keywords show as (not set). Would you know why could it be and if so, a way to be able to fix it? thanks

  12. Bioy Felner on October 19, 2021 at 9:30 am

Great video, thanks so much! the only thing is that when I go to Google Analytics to see the report in live reporting, I see it as cpc, but when I click there, under keyword instead of appearing my ad name, it says "(not set)". Could you please tell me how to solve this?

Man you could of at least shared the URL of the spreadsheet to make our life a little easier….I’m trying to make my own spreadsheet but having trouble parsing all the values for the final tagged URL to paste on facebook.

  16. S on October 19, 2021 at 9:31 am

hey julian i got a question!!! how do i hide the utm link so that other smart marketers dont see it! 😀

  17. Pedro Hull on October 19, 2021 at 9:31 am

Looks like facebook stopped dynamic parameters. The page doesn’t mention it anymore. https://www.facebook.com/business/help/1016122818401732

Maybe we need to get a minimum budget and/or have a facebook account manager ?

"Dynamic parameters aren’t available at this time. Your URL will still work, but parameter values won’t be replaced at ad delivery."

  18. Jason Singer on October 19, 2021 at 9:33 am

Julian – great vid. I noticed in the example ad that you are also including a link in the Primary Text which is shortened. How can you dynamically pass the URL parameter into the Primary Text as well with while maintaining a url shortener? I am facing this same challenge now and have dozens of campaigns and ad sets/ads to spin up and can’t figure this out without doing it manually. Your response is HIGHLY appreciated 🙂

    Hello Julian!

I have a quick question that I cannot seem to find the answer for. I have installed the Dynamic UTM parameters in my ads and I can see them in real time just like in your video.

But when it comes to reporting, I choose the "Keyword" as a secondary dimension and it tells me it is not set.

Could this be because I have added the dynamic utm parameter on the ads that were already running?

    Thank you,

  22. Prithvi Raj on October 19, 2021 at 9:43 am

Can you share the link to that page of FB help where this is mentioned? I can’t seem to find it anywhere.

  23. Peter Weger on October 19, 2021 at 9:44 am

Hi would´t you say it makes a bit more sense to put {{adset.name}} as campaign term and {{ad.name}} as campaign content? an ad is more content than an audience is.
thx for the good content btw 😉

  24. John Hutchison on October 19, 2021 at 9:45 am

The variable place holders are showing in my google analytics instead of the expected dynamic variables. For example {{placement}} is showing in analytics.. not getting replaced by a real value… I used the fb tool, no error no typos.. any ideas?

    and app installs? possible?

  41. Noha Abou-Hashima on October 19, 2021 at 10:07 am

    Hey Julian,

any idea how I can use FB’s dynamic’s parameters for text links?

I have a script on my forms that pulls URL parameter values into hidden fields so that it passes into the lead’s record.

But this doesn’t seem to be work if a lead clicks on the text link (as opposed to the CTA button).

Example, if I add the following link with dynamic parameters to the CTA button

    I get redirected to:

However, pasting this exact url into the text of the ad does not yield the same values in the redirected URL.

I noticed you’re using goog.ly in the text on your ad, but apparently Google doesn’t support this feature anymore for new users.

Do you know of any alternatives I can try?

    Thanks!

  42. Angelika Jarin on October 19, 2021 at 10:08 am

Can you share the formula you are using on the google sheet to combine the codes to come up with the tagged url?

  43. Rebecca Kellappan on October 19, 2021 at 10:09 am

Hi Julian, love your vidoes! Question: Do you have a way to track what initial fb ad a customer came through if they were converted through a retargeting fb ad with UTM? And how/where you would view this in GA?

  44. PT GAMER FF on October 19, 2021 at 10:09 am

    Really good 👍

  45. Felipe Vergara on October 19, 2021 at 10:09 am

Great video! Do you know how can we shorten these dynamic URL parameters without losing our data? Bitly can not support them.

  46. CSE on October 19, 2021 at 10:11 am

doesn’t it make more sense to use the medium cpm for Facebook usually or why did you go for cpc?

  47. Jacob Hamilton on October 19, 2021 at 10:13 am

I can’t believe I’m just learning about this. I’ve been using the analytics UTM builder, I assume I can just copy and paste these parameters in there and it works the same?

  48. Denis Vertiporoh on October 19, 2021 at 10:16 am

Thanks for your video, Julian! but I can not understand why I cannot use both first parameter different from facebook/cpc ?
