Amazon means endless or infinity. It implies that the company has the ability to keep on expanding and developing.

My next question and dilemma for the last 10 years is how to find out if my name is viable before I attempt to trademark it. I don’t want to waste my time. I understand googling is one way to get an idea, and searching in the USPTO but there are so many technicalities that I don’t really know what a good rule of thumb is to be fairly confident it’s a safe name/logo to actually go trademark my name with a lawyer after

Google is a number equal to 1×10 to the 100th power. It was a word before the search engine. It is not a fanciful name.

  18. Team Mayhem Nation on May 10, 2022 at 10:01 pm

I can’t remember why He banned it Amazon but the reason there is a smile placenta where it is, is because they sell everything from A to Z. That may also be why he chose the name as well

  19. Observe self on May 10, 2022 at 10:04 pm

Googolplex is where Google came from….Googol but misspelled for trademark

  20. TheHaslemBoyz on May 10, 2022 at 10:05 pm

I started an LLC for a business my wife and I started. We have the name, logo, and LLC and I recently did a trade mark search. There someone with a live trademark with a very similar name. I know I can’t get my trademark now but do I have to stop doing business under that name and change it?

Is there a lot of red tape and obstacles in renaming your business

  22. MNKathy on May 10, 2022 at 10:08 pm

FYI, when Bezos started to use the name Amazon, he’d neglected to search thoroughly. There already was an Amazon Bookstore in the Minneapolis/St Paul (MN) area, named after the Amazons, a "mythological tribe of fierce and independent women." It was the first lesbian feminist bookstore. With Bezos using the name Amazon and selling books (that’s all Amazon sold, at the beginning), the existing bookstore tried to protect their name. Wikipedia has a good summary of the history, and what happened. See Amazon Bookstore Cooperative.

Hello Hawthorn Law If you could help me figure out the answer to these two questions I would highly appreciate it. We have spoken before on the phone but didn’t get the chance to ask you.

    1. Do I need a California Garment License if my single member LLC is only working online with Teespring retailer?

    2. What are the collection tax withholding responsibilities for a single member LLC with no employees?

    Thank you!
