Exporting Design Assets for Projects | Part 2 – Websites

The methods of exporting assets for a website project. Let’s get down to business! In this video, I cover the methods of exporting assets specifically for websites. Web design is a balanced design medium, meaning how things look is dependent on the speed in which they load. That’s why I cover 3 different ways to export things in the 3 main files types (.jpg, .png, .svg).

I cover slicing, cropping, and smart exporting in tools like sketch and Figma. In this video, Throughout the video, I use Sketch and Photoshop to demonstrate the export process but highly recommend using something like Sketch or Figma to do your Web and Application Design since it’s geared towards this kind of workflow.

Always remember the 2 main goals of exporting assets.
1. Make them look as good as possible
2. Make them load as fast as possible

At the end, I will cover some image compression techniques for bitmaps and vectors and some free tools to make it all happen.

This video is part 1 in a series of 3 videos.
Part 1 – File types
Part 2 – Website Exporting Workflow
Part 3 – Application Exporting Workflow

I really hope these videos are helpful!! If you’ve got any questions then please feel free to ask them in the comments.

When exporting the images in Sketch to JPG, how do you get rid of the rounded corners or the shadow? I have a similar sketch and even if I slice the image itself with the square mask (the effects of the rounded corners and shadow are on the containers), I get a jpg with rounded corners…

Hi Jesse! I love your videos, I find them so clear and self-explanatory:D Can I ask you a practical question? If you were just the UX and UI designer and, not knowing how to code like me, you’d have to leave the Web developing to the Developer (sorry for the reiteration:P), would you subcontract him privately and deal personally with the client? And how much would you pay the developer in percentage based on the cost of the project? 40%, less? I honestly have no clue XD
