EPIK Fail Of A Domain Registrar & Web Host

EPIK Fail Of A Domain Registrar & Web Host

Recently Epik had a major data leak and with this came all of their customer data along with internal systems and even unrelated WHOIS data and the response from Epik has been absolutely horrible.

Brodie: „If you‘re gonna use MD5, you might as well store the passwords in plain text!“
Epik: * removes all hashing *

Anonymous groups always start with a “moral” cause and hurt innocent people. I was in and out of the hacking space from the late 80’s into early 2000’s. A lot of the moral hackers are really immoral people with no values, just excuses to justify what they do while sitting on people personal data. I left hacking when I grew up and noticed what we were doing was not moral and I was surrounded by people who were thefts and pedos.

We can excuse the racism, but we draw the line at bad security! 🤦‍♂️

Very unfortunate situation. What’s even worse is how the media is portraying Epik as an "alt-right hosting service", painting everyone in the leak as some kind of political radical. Even though 99% of Epik’s users are not anything of the sort.
Yeah, I was in the leak. I made an account so I could create a resume website after being inspired by Luke Smith’s videos on webhosting. Now ArsTechnica paints my registrar as an alt-right host and I’m genuinely worried about what this could lead to in the future.

They rather prey to God instead of having good security lol

hay, Brodie you should look into the WSL Malware that Targets the Windows host. Microsoft completely disregarded it and shrugged it off when they were warned about it…

    Well said

  15. Mr Sansiverius on October 7, 2021 at 8:43 am

That’s why you should use eastern European registrars, nobody cares enough to hack them

  16. Alex Pourin on October 7, 2021 at 8:44 am

    Why wouldn’t anyone sue them?

  17. vvish vvish on October 7, 2021 at 8:44 am

so are there any good replacements who won’t ban like google does ?
    like epik but secure

  18. MonAaraj on October 7, 2021 at 8:51 am

Hey, well, if you need a new registrar, I suggest Porkbun :s

I think you overexagurated the insecurity of md5 a little bit. It has collision attacks, but they dont really work for passwords, since you at least need to know the plaintext or maybe even to have it generated in a specific way. Its faster to bruteforce than newer hashes. But as far as im aware there is no preimage faster than 2**100 (which is around a square of whats reasonably possible to compute) for true md5. So while, true, md5 is not completly future proof or cia proof maybe and shouldnt be used, it isnt really a big problem that they use it.
