DNS Registrar – What is…
A DNS Registrar is authorized by ICANN to sell domain names. They essentially do the admin work required for the Domain Name System. Registrars have become important because they are private companies and they have started to become more political in their policies for maintaining clients for DNS services.
Hi Eli, so glad to listen to someone who is understandable. I am the Editor for an organization that pays for a .org website on Wix. Are we also required to pay our annual bill to "Domain Registry"? We already pay Wix. Why would we also need to pay Domain Registry?
Hello Sir,
i was not fine today due to some reasons , but when i saw you back again today , i became very happy that today is one of the good day in my life . Thanks
Eli, you not only have vast knowledge, you also have the rare gift of making complicated things much easier to understand. Thanks so much !
i wonder if the internet doesn’t work the in different african countries…
Good vid.
Eli, awesome video; so happy you’re starting these informational videos again 👍
I wonder if these are tests, in the face of tons of people complaining about there being no IT content, I wonder if these will be monitored closely with a view to saying "see, I was right, they got no views, you people don’t want IT videos, there’s no demand for these and this is the proof"
great video, thanks for educating me!
Whoa…. Eli the computer guy is back!

Nice lecture mate. Well done.
This is what you are good at… computers! The other stuff not so much.
Great info!!!
I hope you are "back"! Love you Eli <3
woohoo welcome back eli 👍
Can someone explain to me how this guy has nearly 1 mil subscribers but is getting less than 10k on his videos?
so , couldn’t i just host my own hostname registrar system?
it doesn’t seem right to have to be reliant on another entity to hold your domain name for you.
i think it should be possibly to hold your own domain name as well but under certain circumstances.
the tor network seems to get away with this just fine with .onion address but normal web browsers can not access .onion addresses .
and if we are comparing this to water then.
i can poke a hole in the ground and probably get better water then what you can get from city taps.
with all their chemicals and what not being pumped into the water.
so using that same logic . i should be able to poke a hole in the internet and pull out some domain name.
Excellent! best teacher in the world!

Eli, I come up with a very random, sometimes silly domain names, but the moment i try to register them the registrars have tried to extort money from me by claiming that they own the name. How do I avoid this extortionists?

Anti-hate speech is a euphemism for "White man said something I disagree with."
This is the Eli i know!
Just made a domain name transfer last week and having to deal with these terms as of late. Great explanation. Top notch, as always. 👌🏼
When I type in “what is a DNS?” this is exactly the quality of video I like to find. It’s very thorough, well stated, and easy to follow. Thank you.

A possible solution to DNS attacks is to 1) Don’t permit use of short DNS ttl. 2) Enable transferring the entire or subscribed sections of the master DB and then hourly or daily updates as diff files with strong verification of integrity. Blacklisted domains can be excluded by the master or lists of them used to purge from your DB, so you only need to use the DB as a whitelist and block everything not in it; other than local authorized domains recorded in a separate list. 3) If you want to use DNS for load balancing, let the client have all of your DNS records simultaneously and probe the nearest two or three to decide which to connect to.
dnssec: unsigned
Good explanation, thanks for this info.
Wow! Go Daddy and Host Gator sure are popular.
