Custom Heroku Domain Names – Python Django Dentist Website #12

Custom Heroku Domain Names – Python Django Dentist Website #12

In this video I’ll show you how to use your own custom domain name for your Django App on Heroku.

In the last video we pushed out app to Heroku, but the default Heroku subdomain leaves a lot to be desired! Luckily we can easily use any domain name that we want for our app.

You just need to purchase your domain name from a Domain Registrar like Namecheap or any other registrar, and then point it towards your Heroku app. I’ll show you how to do it in this video!

Man, you are so right about GoDaddy, it is a bad company with terrible customer service and a bunch of hidden charges. Their UI is pretty confusing and even the configuration of A records and CNAME is unclearly complicated.

Great video! Im using Heroku, namecheap, and Django so this is exactly what I was looking for; however, I keep getting an internal server error when I point my browser to my desired domain. Also tried setting the CNAME to the dedicated DNS target provided by Heroku and messed around with all the periods and slashes with no luck. Has anyone resolved a similar internal server error after purchasing the domain and following these steps? Thanks again for the video!

I had a crazy story using google domains. They kept me locked out of my domain for almost 2 weeks because I didnt register my license within 10 days. It took them over a week to verify it. I am assuming they didnt like me calling them out on it after two days of waiting. Meanwhile I am emailing and communication from my PC AND MY PHONE WHICH ARE BOTH CONNECTED TO MY GOOGLE ACCOUNTS!

It appears that you need at least a hobby account, in order to have SSL applied to your Heroku account…

    it just says this:

Domain "www.rukmanp.com.np" could not be created: Please verify your account in order to add domains (please enter a credit card) For more information, see https://devcenter.heroku.com/categories/billing Verify now at https://heroku.com/verify See the Rules on adding domains section if you receive the error message "example.com is currently in use by another app".
